Set of footwear
During the coldest months of winter, a man would wear a pair of long stockings (aliqsiik), long boots (kamikpaak or miqquliik), and a pair of overshoes that covered the base of the kamikpaak (tuktuqutiik). All of this footwear was made of caribou skin. Interestingly, the overshoes had fur under the sole. This made them more resistant, warmer, and, above all, more silent to the ears of a caribou that a man could be hunting across the snow. For seal hunting, men preferred seal-skin overshoes to caribou-skin stockings and boots because seal skin was more resistant to the conditions of walking over ice.
Nowadays, men sometimes wear caribou-skin boots, but without caribou-skin stockings and overshoes. Most nonetheless opt for boots made of rubber or synthetic materials.
