Rituals and ceremonies

Rituals and ceremonies, notably shamanic ones, were central to the lives of Igloolik Inuit, especially before they became Christian in the early 20th century. Such events were an opportunity for community members to come together and strengthen their social ties, while keeping their cultural practices alive. On these occasions, a space was created where humans, deceased individuals, and animals could meet each other, thus providing the participants with profound experiences of connecting and being transformed.
